- Mr. Clattenburg who earlier called it quits with the Premier League has reversed his decision
- Earlier reports indicate that the 41-year-old will quit English football in favour of a mega-money move to Saudi Arabia
- He would be in charge of four more EPL games before he finally leaves at the end of the season
It has been confirmed that world renowned referee Mark Clattenburg has made a return to England and will continue officiating English Premier League matches.
Earlier reports indicate that the 41-year-old will quit the Premier League in favour of a mega-money move to Saudi Arabia, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited announced on Thursday, February 16, 2017.
According to The Sun (UK), the top-flight referee was sick of not getting support from the officials’ governing body.
Although he will still move to Saudi Arabia, the ‘no nonsense’ referee has agreed to take charge of at least four more top-flight games before he quits the UK.
He is said to have held talks with the head of the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOB) recently.
Clattenburg, who is still under contact with the PGMOB, has now agreed to take charge of a number of matches between now and the send of the season.
A source said: “He will still be going to Saudi Arabia but we will see him again, at least three or four more times in the Premier League.
“In his mind, he had refereed his last game but after constructive talks he has agreed to see out the remainder of his contact.
“Mark Clattenburg is seen by many as the best ref in England so it makes sense for Mike Riley to use him as much as possible before the summer.”
He would be in charge if the English Premier League match between West Brom and Bournemouth on Saturday, February 25.
