Ogun Traditional Ruler Withdraws Okorocha's Chieftaincy Tittle, Cancels Installation

In a surprising u-turn, the Eselu of Iselu Kingdom, Akintunde Akinyemi, announced Monday the withdrawal of the conferment of Otunba Asoludero chieftaincy title on former Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, cancelling the September 19 installation ceremony.

Contained in a signed letter dated August 9 and addressed to Okorocha, the reason for the withdrawal was said to be “in the interest of peace and harmony”.

“Senator sir, I must state that my decision to withdraw the chieftaincy title earlier coffered on you is not premised on any hatred for you but is done in the interest of peace and harmony.

“For the record, I want to declare to Your Excellency that Eselu-in-Council and the good people of Iselu Kingdom, will continue to love you and other well-meaning Nigerians, home and abroad.

“Your Excellency should note that the doors of my palace will continue to remain open to you and other patriotic Nigerians, at all times for the progress of my community and Nigeria, in general.

“My advice to Your Excellency is that you should continue to help the needy in Nigeria, especially through your Foundation.

“Also, do not forget that development of every society requires all hands to be on deck; hence Your Excellency’s continuous show of love towards the development of Iselu Kingdom will always be greatly appreciated.

“Sir, it is my belief that what tomorrow will be, will be determined by the future.

“Therefore, I appeal that you should see this development as an act of God.

I pray to the Almighty God to continue to be with you in your political career and in all your endeavours.

“Any inconveniences this withdrawal of the chieftaincy title might have caused you, are indeed regretted.

“Please, accept the assurances of my esteemed regard,” the letter read.

The traditional ruler before the withdrawal had recently pronounced Okorochas as the Otunba Asoludero of Iselu kingdom in Yewa -North Local Government Area of Ogun, for his “exemplified track record of unifying different tribes across the country”

Senator Rochas Okorocha, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, says there is a vacuum in Nigeria.

Under President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, wanton violence and disregard for human rights have plummeted.

Senator Okorocha, a senator representing Imo West, stated this at a one-day summit and award recognition programme of the Nigerian Diaspora Youth Ambassador (NDYA) on Thursday in Abuja.

Addressing Nigerian youths, the former Imo governor stated, “You are the very group of people we have been waiting for to correct our mistakes and build a Nigeria of our collective dreams.

“There is a vacuum in Nigeria, and this nation is waiting for youths to rewrite the history of Nigeria. If youths can come together to say we want to take the presidency, no matter what, they will do it because they stand to succeed in unity.’’

Okorocha urged the youths to be focused and take action ahead of the 2023 election. With the unemployment rate skyrocketing, the senator urged them not to wait for white-collar works.

“If you must succeed, you must do teamwork like the lion to bring down the elephant called leadership. United, you can achieve anything, just like the lion that has its strength in unity,” said Mr Okorocha, prepping them up for the 2023 presidency. “Don’t give up. Continue to persist, and you can take the presidency in 2023.”

Similarly, the Senate Chief Whip of Orji Kalu, represented by his aide Obasi Igbokwe, noted that the national assembly identified with the youths.

Also speaking at the event, Almustapha Abdulahi, the former National Youths Council of Nigeria’s president, encouraged youths to be dogged, love one another and reject things that would cause division among them.
