Former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has distanced himself from the travail of Uche Secondus, the party’s National Chairman.

Atiku said he has no hands in the move to sack Secondus as National Chairman of PDP.

The former Vice President, who spoke through his aide, Paul Ibe, reacted to speculations over his recent meeting with the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt.

In a statement by Ibe, Atiku explained that the meeting was aimed at reconciling aggrieved members of the party and not to sack Secondus.

Atiku said he was only interested in the peace and stability of the PDP and not what will endanger the interest of the party.

“It is a beer parlour talk, and it is also mischievous. Why will a former Vice President be behind the plot to sack PDP national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus? What will be his interest?

“This is someone who has commenced the process of having conversations with stakeholders of the party on reconciliation. A man who has encouraged processes aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the party.

“The trip he made to Port Harcourt came after a one in Delta. And he has more in the offing. Why will he promote peace and stability in the party and be behind moves to sack Secondus? It’s ridiculous for anyone to talk about this.

“Atiku understands the Constitution of the PDP and what the party says about tenure for party leadership. So he cannot be working against something that he understands and promotes. That is not how Democrats behave. Those are anti-democratic behaviour and that is not who he is. Whoever is saying this should know that this is a beer parlour talk and unnecessary mischief,” he said.

Just yesterday, Secondus had alleged that a strong PDP chieftain was determined to hijack the party.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to forget 2023.

The ruling party told them to bury the thought of returning to power, noting that Nigerians prefer the All Progressives Congress (APC).

John Akpan Udoedehe, National Secretary, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), issued a statement on Friday.

The scribe responded to the comment by Atiku that the citizens will support the PDP to win the 2023 general elections.

The Wazirin Adamawa spoke on Thursday at the Rivers Government House in Port Harcourt after a meeting with Governor Nyesom Wike.

Udoedehe said Atiku ought to know that Nigerians “can never return to Egypt”.

“They cannot vote for PDP in 2023 having tested the party and known that it is a failure. In other words, nothing good can come out of PDP.

“They were there for 16 years without anything to show for it. The achievements of our party in less than eight years has eclipsed the PDP 16 wasted years.”

The secretary stressed that the APC is not in class with the PDP “in many ways”
