Ahmed Musa To Get N10m After Carpe Verde Victory

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, will receive the sum of N10million from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), for winning his 100th cap for the country.

This was confirmed by NFF president, Amaju Pinnick.

Musa achieved the milestone during the World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde on Tuesday.

The former Leicester City winger started the game, which the Eagles went on to win 2-1 in Mindelo.

Following the win at the Estádio Municipal Adérito Sena in Mindelo, Pinnick said: “The NFF will give Ahmed Musa N10 million for reaching the 100 caps.

“We will sustain this gesture and honour our players that hit 100 games henceforth.”

Musa made his debut for Nigeria at the age of 17 in August 2010.

He came on to replace John Mikel Obi in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar.

Musa becomes the third player to reach 100 caps for Nigeria after Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama.

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho approves of Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford, while offering his opinions on the effect that move might have on the Serie A title race.

Ronaldo was confirmed as a United player on Friday after leaving Juventus in a move worth an initial €15 million (£13m/$18m).

It is his second spell with the Red Devils, having come to prominence at the club as a youngster before joining Real Madrid in 2009.

“The only thing I say and it seems basic and logical to me, if Juve are happy, if Cristiano is happy and United are happy, then it’s the perfect business,” Mourinho, who worked alongside Ronaldo during his time at Madrid, told reporters in Saturday’s press conference.

“There’s no need to talk about Cristiano. For 20 years he has written history, there’s nothing to comment.”

The loss of Ronaldo may hinder Juventus’ chances of regaining the Serie A title they lost to Inter last season; but Mourinho, now at the helm of Roma, is not tempted to play up his team’s own chances in 2021-22.

“Scudetto? That’s a question for [Inter coach] Simone Inzaghi, not for me,” he added.

Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea are still searching for more signings ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, with Sevilla defender Jules Kounde the most likely candidate to arrive at Stamford Bridge.

Blues boss Tuchel admitted “all eyes are open” at Stamford Bridge when it comes to new signings, with Kurt Zouma inching towards a £25m West Ham switch.

Zouma’s expected departure is set to open the door for France defender Kounde’s arrival, with Chelsea still determined to strengthen their squad.

Romelu Lukaku’s club-record £97.5m move from Inter Milan will remain the Blues’ marquee signing, but Tuchel has not ruled out further additions with four days left.

Asked if Chelsea could yet make further signings in this window, he said: “Well we are hoping; we still have some ideas and we are trying.

And not all decisions are taken regarding also to our squad. So there are some negotiations going on and we are aware of all the situations.

“Hoping as in meaning that we need something to make the coach happy or to be competitive? Absolutely not.

“Because I’m happy with the squad as it is, and I have a lot of confidence we are absolutely competitive on a high level.

“But still all eyes are open, and we are aware of all situations and you never know in football.

“But in the moment we are focused on the game tomorrow (Saturday) and there are not many days left to take big decisions, so it’s all good so far.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is in talks with Manchester United over a possible return of the superstar to Old Trafford.

This is as reports say that Manchester City are no longer in the running to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo left United for a then-world record £80m to join Real Madrid in 2009 after spending six years with the club, when he won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the FA Cup, and the League Cup.

Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth said, “Jorge Mendes, Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, has approached Man Utd.

“They are in talks over a proposal that could see Ronaldo sensationally return to other clubs.

“Remember, Jorge Mendes is talking to other clubs.

“Man City are apparently out of the equation but there are other European clubs Mendes is talking to.

“But the feeling is now Manchester United are the front runners to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Jorginho has been crowned UEFA's Player of the Year following his double European triumph.

The 29-year-old Italian midfielder won the Champions League final with Chelsea before helping Italy to Euro glory as they became Euro 2020 champions.

And on Thursday, August 26, he completed a hat-trick of accolades as he was crowned UEFA's best player of last season.

The midfielder beat Chelsea team-mate N'Golo Kante and Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne to the top prize.

Chelsea's No 5's big moment was officially announced during Thursday's Champions League group-stage draw.

Jorginho said: 'I've very sorry I can't be there at his important moment due to the restrictions but I wanted to say that I'm very happy with this award.

'I would like to say thank to you all the people who made their contribution to making this happen, a big thanks from the heart to all the people who helped me on this journey, from family to friends, to the supporters and my teammates and to people who didn't believe in me.

'They motivated me to work even more so thanks to them as well. I've very happy, a hug to everybody.'

Jorginho, Kante, and De Bruyne had made the final three-man shortlist ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski.

Tottenham striker, Harry Kane accuses Daniel Levy of broken promises as Spurs block Man City's £125m bid

Tottenham striker, Harry Kane has accused the club's chairman, Daniel Levy of breaking his promise to let him leave the London club this summer.

Sources close to the England captain insist he will continue to give everything to Spurs, despite feeling that the club have not matched his ambitions.

Kane's camp claim it was agreed he would be permitted to leave if Spurs didn't win a trophy or qualify for the Champions League last season. The England captain still has his heart set on a transfer to Manchester City before the August 31 deadline.

However, Kane, 28, wants to regain the trust and faith of Spurs supporters and already vowed to give 100 per cent if he is called upon.

According to Sportsmail, Kane was dropped for the trip to Portugal for Wednesday's Europa Conference League play-off tie against Pacos de Ferreira.

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo decided to leave him behind so he can continue working on his fitness ahead of Sunday's trip to Wolves.

Sources close to Kane claim that during a meeting at the start of last season, Levy agreed to let the striker leave if Spurs failed to qualify for the Champions League or win silverware.

During the summit, it is said Kane was told by the chairman that Spurs, then coached by Jose Mourinho, would compete for trophies and for the top four.

The Kane camp believe there has been communication between Spurs and City over the past year, which is why he expected to join the champions this summer.

City's latest offer is worth £125m, though Spurs' minimum valuation is £150m.

Former Chelsea striker, Diego Costa signs for Atletico Mineiro on free transfer

Former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea striker, Diego Costa has signed for Brazilian Serie A side Atletico Mineiro after eight months without a club.

Costa, 32, has been a free agent since Atletico Madrid terminated his contract six months before its expiration date last December, with the Spaniards citing 'personal reasons' for the move.

Following the termination of his contract, Costa was allowed to join any side as a free agent and was linked with several clubs.

On Sunday, Atletico Mineiro confirmed the striker's arrival in an official statement on their website, which reads: "Diego Costa is a Galo player.

"The athletic board and the player reached an agreement today. Galo will be his first club as a professional athlete in Brazil."

The Spain International rejoined Atletico Madrid from Chelsea on a permanent three-and-a-half-year contract in January 2018, but left Wanda Metropolitano six months before the end of the agreement.

Lionel Messi has had his first training with his new teammates at PSG after moving to the club from Barcelona.

On Thursday, August 12, the Argentine superstar trained with his teammates, and also met with Kylian Mbappe having been hotly anticipated by the media. He also met a long-time rival in Sergio Ramos.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner joined Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year contract with PSG on Tuesday, just days after Barcelona announced he was leaving the club he joined 21 years ago.

Messi's deal is worth £25m per year after tax - plus bonuses - and includes a £25m signing-on fee, while it also follows the summer arrivals of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos and Georginio Wijnaldum at the Parc des Princes.
