Nigerians Should Stop Exposing Buhari’s Failures Online - Ambassador to U.S.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Uzoma Emenike
Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Uzoma Emenike, says Nigerians should start projecting the Buhari administration in positive light rather than complaining about its economic and security challenges.

Ms Emenike said there’s nothing unique about what Nigerians are dealing with every day since “it happens everywhere”.

Ms Emenike was one of several ambassadors who spoke at the virtual 2021 annual general meeting organised by Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Americas (NIDOA).

“The earlier we showcase our country in the positive light, the better for us because the challenge we face is not peculiar to Nigeria alone; it happens everywhere,” She said.

Ms Emenike and other ambassadors in North America called on Nigerians in the diaspora to evolve practical solutions to the security challenges in Nigeria, stating that insecurity had become a global challenge that needed a holistic approach to address.

Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, asked for collective efforts to fix the country.

“The country (Nigeria) is important for all of us. We need to be united, we should not allow anybody coming from outside to divide us. Let us collectively fix whatever is bad in our security system. The issue of confidence-building is important.

“We have been saddled with self-doubt; listening to false stories about the country. We have to be realistic; Nigeria is a very important member of the international community, in AU and ECOWAS, so we need to portray the country in a good light,” he said.

Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada, Adeyinka Asekun, said the ongoing activities of bandits in some states were distracting Nigerians and the international community from focusing on the achievements in other sectors in Nigeria.

The keynote speaker, Kingsley Moghalu, said that the 1999 Constitution was clear on security and welfare of the people being the primary responsibility of any responsible government.

Speaking on the theme ‘Building a Sustainable Security Apparatus in Nigeria: Diaspora Perspective’, NIDOA chairman, Obed Monago, tasked the federal government to tackle security issues such as terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, among others.

The issue of banditry continues to overwhelm the President Muhammadu Buhari regime, as the U.S. offers to assist Nigeria to tackle bandits and the Boko Haram insurgency by providing training to personnel of the Nigerian airforce.

Nnamdi Kanu: IPOB Not Defending Christians, They're Thieves Out To Promote Terrorism - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as thieves.

Buhari insisted that IPOB led by Nnamdi Kanu are thieves promoting terrorism.

The president argued that IPOB is not defending Christians in the Southeast.

In a statement by his mouthpiece, Garba Shehu, the president lamented the group’s attack on police stations and government facilities in the Southeast, NAN reports.

Buhari maintained that the Kanu-led group are not freedom fighters.

The statement reads partly: “Further afield in the South-East, IPOB are not struggling for freedom when they attack police stations and property, but rather committing acts of terrorism,” to steal money.

“IPOB is not defending Christians, as their highly paid foreign lobbyists claim when almost every citizen of those states they terrorize is uniformly Christian.”

The president also appealed to Nigerians to unite against, “those who seek to divide us for their own nefarious financial and political gain.”

Buhari’s Insistence On Colonial Grazing Routes Shows He’s Mentally Unstable - Wole Soyinka

Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka has queried President Muhammadu Buhari’s insistence on establishing grazing routes around the country despite public outcry against the policy. He said the president may be suffering from “mental delusion.”

“It’s like there’s some delusion about this thing, a kind of mental delusion about this thing. What is it?” Mr Soyinka asked, as he addressed a press conference in Lagos on Friday.

Prof Soyinka said President Buhari may also be suffering from deafening noise from his son’s wedding bells last weekend.

“Perhaps the sound, the noise of the wedding bells (Yusuf Buhari) has contributed to the possible impairment of the hearing of the president of the this nation. Because he does not seem to hear anything,” the professor of linguistics lampooned.

Citing a series of groups of people that have kicked against Mr Buhari’s move, Mr Soyinka wondered why the president was obsessed “about something which is being rejected, right, left and centre.”

“Virtually the whole nation is screaming we do not want any open cattle grazing whether they go by the name cattle routes or grazing reserves. Even the all powerful and untouchable Miyetti Allah, patrons of the murderous Fulani herdsmen, have gone on record that ranching is it,” Mr Soyinka asserted.

In April and July, Southern Governors’ Forum at their meetings in Asaba and Lagos respectively announced a ban on open grazing in the region, setting a September 1 deadline for full implementation.

Similarly, Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, earlier in the week, described the Buhari regime’s insistence on the grazing routes as a show of tyranny “when the preponderance of opinions across the country is to do away with open grazing.”

Prof. Soyinka alleges that there was perhaps another agenda behind Mr Buhari’s setting up of a committee to recover old grazing routes across the country.

“And when we think of all that discussions, all that debates is settled in rational terms, along comes a new version of RUGA with the president insisting on sending his agents out to go and map out and recover the old grazing reserves  when governments and people, experts, agronomists, businesspeople are saying this is the business and should be conducted in this particular way.” Why is the president obsessed about something that is being rejected by the people? The activist queried.

“The obsession is on such a level that even people who consider themselves rational, like my self, begin to wonder whether this is really all about cattle. Perhaps there is other kinds of agenda that we don’t know about.”

Last week, Mr Buhari approved recommendations of a committee to review ‘with dispatch,’ 368 grazing sites, across 25 states in the country, “to determine the levels of encroachment.”

Buhari Approves ₦24 Billion For Ranching Program

Ebonyi, Yobe and Katsina states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have received N24billion for ranching from the Federal Government.

Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media, Garba Shehu, stated this last night on Politics Today, a programme on Channels.

He said four received N6billion each for ranching and other associated purposes.

Shehu said: ” Yes, Katsina has been given, but Katsina is not the only state that has been given.

“So far, about N24billion has been disbursed to about four states for ranching and associated activities.

“Yobe has been given. Ebonyi has been given and FCT has been given. More than eight other states are now being processed for this payment.”

Shehu said the programme is one of the ways the Buhari Administration intends to end the farmer/herder clashes.

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the Petroleum Industry Bill 2021 into law.

This is according to a statement signed by presidential spokesperson Femi Adesina.

According to the statement, President Buhari signed the bill into law while in quarantine, after his arrival from the United Kingdom.

“The ceremonial part of the new legislation will be done on Wednesday, after the days of mandatory isolation would have been fulfilled,” the statement said.

The Petroleum Industry Act provides legal, governance, regulatory and fiscal framework for the Nigerian petroleum industry, the development of host communities, and related matters.

The Senate had passed the bill on July 15 and the House of Representatives followed suit on July 16, thus ending a long wait since the early 2000s.

Femi Adesina, a presidential spokesperson, has expressed that it is too early for President Muhammadu Buhari to support any aspirant for the presidency in the 2023 general election.
Adesina stated this on Friday during an interview with Channels Television.

Adesina, who explained that the meeting between Buhari and the APC chieftain on Thursday was a “goodwill visit”, said it will be unlike Buhari to jump the gun on supporting presidential aspirants for the 2023 election.

“That meeting actually happened, but it is all about goodwill and best wishes. We know that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had been in London about the same time the president was there,” he said.

“Like you said, we don’t believe what we read in social media but we have read a lot about asiwaju Tinubu’s health, so the president’s visit was a goodwill visit.

“The president still has two years less three months in his tenure of office. So, for him to start supporting somebody now will just be like jumping the gun and you know that President Buhari will never do that.

“Before the 2019 election, people began to campaign for him before INEC blew the whistle for campaign to start. He was the one who came out to say ‘no, don’t do it; don’t jump the gun’.

“The president himself will dare not jump the gun in terms of supporting one candidate or the other. Also, recall that he had said anybody that wants to be president after him should go out and work. That means the president may not be supporting anybody until maybe perhaps a candidate of the party emerges. Knowing President Buhari, he will never jump the gun.”

The wife of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Uchechi, has called on the British government to prevent President Muhammadu Buhari-led government from subjecting the IPOB leader to further harm.

Uchechi stated this in a letter forwarded to the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, UK, Dominic Raab MP.

The wife of the IPOB leader noted that only Raab can end her nightmare with Kanu in detention.

Uchechi’s call was contained in the letter by Kanu’s UK legal team, Bindmans LLP.

Bindmans LLP sent the pre-action letter on behalf of the Kanu family to Raab MP, challenging his ongoing failure to provide consular assistance to the IPOB leader who is a British national.

President Muhammadu Buhari says nobody can succeed outside their educational qualification, hence Nigerians are aware of the priority of education.

Speaking on Thursday during a panel session at the global education summit, in London, United Kingdom, the president said his administration is committed to raising the budget for education by 50 per cent in the next two years, adding that Nigeria will attain 100 per cent budgetary increase by 2025.

He said no Nigerian parent jokes with education, as they are aware that if their children missed the opportunity of being educated, they have missed a lot.

Buhari noted that the population of the country is a challenge for any administration; but despite this, the government and people have realised that education is the starting point for success.

Senator Dino Melaye who represented the Kogi West senatorial district during the 8th National Assembly has questioned the capacity of President Muhammadu Buhari to represent Nigerians in a global education summit in the United Kingdom.

DAILY POST reported that Buhari had on Monday departed Abuja for London to enable him attend the Global Education Summit on Financing Global Partnership for Education (GPE) 2021-2025 in the UK.

Disclosing this, Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, said the President will remain in London for two weeks to enable him undergo his earlier scheduled medical checkup in London.

Reacting, the former lawmaker slammed the president for representing the country, stating that he has nothing to offer academically.

According to Dino, the President would have asked the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to represent the country in the global summit.

Dino made the remark in a video he tweeted on his official Twitter handle.

Former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has revealed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo warned the leaders who supported President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 that the General was unfit to govern the country.

The former governor bemoaned what he described as “the failure” of President Buhari, to deliver on his campaign promises.

Oyinlola, who said that he played a critical role in the campaign that brought Buhari to power, said he was regretful of his action, adding that he should have listened to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s warning that Buhari was unfit to govern the country.

The former governor said this in an interview he granted BBC Yoruba, which was monitored by Newsflash Nigeria.

Oyinlola said, “I am saddened that Buhari said he did not know what restructuring is. I played an important role in the process that brought Buhari to power. One of the policies we sold to the South was restructuring but it was shocking that in an interview, the President said he didn’t know the meaning of restructuring. May God forgive us and have mercy because this was contrary to what we envisaged.

“We made a lot of promises to the people but none of the promises he made has been fulfilled, especially on the security issues. It was like Boko Haram would be forgotten within six months of Buhari’s becoming the President. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo warned us that Buhari was not fit to run the country but we did not listen to him.

“We thought that since he was once a military Head of State, he would know how best to handle the insecurity that the country was faced with. Since we gained independence, and civil war, there’s no moment scarier than what we have now.
