1,000 EGBA INDIGENT STUDENTS TO GET SCHOLARSHIP

At least 1,000 indigent students of Egba extraction in Ogun State have been listed for scholarship in this year’s edition of the annual Lisabi Day Celebration.
The festival, which began with the booming of guns atop the Olumo rock on Monday, ends with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Ake, on March 5.
The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, who made this known at his Ake Palace, Abeokuta, at the weekend, said the scholarship was the initiative of the Egba in diaspora.
Gbadebo added the Egba sons and daughters abroad took it upon themselves to address the educational plights of the beneficiaries, whose parents lack the means to finance their education.
“Ahead of this year Lisabi Day Celebration, I can confirm to you that a minimum of 1,000 indigent students have been penciled down for scholarship by Egba in diaspora,” he said.
According to him, the beneficiaries would be selected on merit.
The monarch also encouraged his people resident outside the country to start thinking of returning home for the growth and development of the ancient town.
