Vice President Yemi Osibanjo Begs Niger Delta People To Embrace Peace

Vice President Yemi Osibanjo has pleaded with the people of the Niger Delta to embrace peace as President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to the development of the region.
Osinbanjo, who said not less than 20,000 people have died in the region following pipeline vandalism and other hazards, said Niger Delta is a special zone for the nation, hence the federal government will treat it as such.
In a short message titled: “We must prepare for the future”, the Vice President said it is time to prepare for the future, a future of progress and development but not the future of pipeline vandalism and environmental destruction.
According to Nigeria Politics Online, Osinbajo called on stakeholders in the region to embrace peace and shun conflict as peace is needed for the anticipated development to thrive.
He said Delta state must be prepared to reserve huge funds for the development of the region, noting that the federal government cannot solve the problem alone but with the help of every stakeholder, the Niger Delta dream will be realized.
He said the 16 points listed by the Niger Delta leaders who met with Buhari at Aso Rock will bring the development but funds are needed to actualize the lofty goals.
He also spoke on the clean-up and that every part of the country is important to the president, consequently he will not leave any part unattended to.
According to him: “we must be smart and act intelligently and fast. The oil should be used to develop the region and the people because a time is coming that the oil won’t have value again”.
He promised to take the message of the Ijaw youth council to the president, noting that the leadership role of the youths comes with responsibility and this must be done on time.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state and minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, both commended the Vice President for saying every part of Nigeria is important to the president.
After visiting the site for the Maritime University, Osinbajo had a closed door meeting at the palace of the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom.
In the close door meeting were Governor Okowa, Senator James Manager, who is representing Delta South in the national assembly and Ibe Kachikwu.
