‘Losing 6-0 To Japan Was Expected’- Former Falconets Head Coach Reveals!

To former Falconets head coach, Edwin Okon, there
is nothing surprising in the Nigerian female
Under-20 team 6-0 bashing in the hands of the
Japan ladies on Sunday.
The Falconets were helpless as they open their
World Cup campaign on a disgraceful note when the
Japanese pounced on them mercilessly.
A hat-trick by Mami Ueno, a brace by Yuka Momiki
and own goal by a Nigerian, Mary Ologbosere were
enough to hand the Asian giants the three points at
stake in a largely one-sided clash at the Bava Park,
Port Moresby.
Okon, however, said the side could still find
themselves back into qualification by winning their
second match against North Americans side,
Canada.
As the former U-20 coach told Super Sports, “I
expected the defeat because of the level of
preparations by Falconets heading into the World
Cup.
The Nigerian girls will head back to the trenches on
Wednesday, November 16 on same pitch, in Bava
Port, Port Moresby to trade tackles with fellow
losers, Canada while Japan will square up against
Spain to struggle for the top.
“However, I never expected the heavy
goal margin though Japan is
unarguably the best in the category
together with Korea.
“Japan plays fast pace football and I
do not see anyone in the Falconets
defence line that could have stopped
them on full prowl.
“Maybe the side can recover in the
second match against Canada to
chance qualification in the group as it
will spell doom to lose the next clash.
“Falconets are supposed to beat the
Canadians with more determination
and zeal more than what they
displayed against Japan.
“All hopes are not lost they can
possibly overcome the initial setback to
win the next two matches against
Canada and Spain.”
