Dora Akunyili's daughter's painting sells for over $1m at auction
Daughter of former NAFDAC boss, Dora Akunyili, Njideka Akunyili Crosby
beat her personal record last Thursday when she sold one of her
paintings for almost $1.1 million at Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening
Sale.
The painting named Drown (pictured above) which was done in 2012, was initially estimated to sell for $200,000 – $300,000 but was eventually sold for $1,092,500.
No fewer than 11 people made a bid for the painting and it was eventually sold to an anonymous bidder.
“Drown,”is an intimate double portrait of the artist embracing her husband, Justin. Njideka's previous auction record was $93,750 when she sold her artwork named “Untitled” at Sotheby’s New York in September 2016.
